Júlio Dolbeth was born in Angola in 1973, lives and works in Porto, Portugal. Has a degree in Communication Design from the Fine Arts School of Porto and a Master in Multimedia Art with a thesis entitled: “Artificial Skin” (Pele Artificial). He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Illustration, and is a co-founder of “Dama Aflita”, a cultural association and Art Gallery dedicated to illustration and drawing in Porto.
Júlio Dolbeth disentangles with gracility and poetry his imaginary and/or interior worlds. By marrying certain timeless elements befallen recurrent in his work as an illustrator, such as birds, logs, a house, the wedding dress, a diamond, a mountain..., with some elements diverted from the present, such as the speech bubble or the cartouche of thoughts, and photography..., Júlio Dolbeth relates reality, its hypothetical tediousness, but more substantially, its necessary absurdity.
